Retractors are incarnations of the expression, “an iron fist in a velvet glove.”
Whilst being very strong the handles operate smoothly and offer a comfortable but
firm grip. The perfectly bevelled blades and prongs allow atraumatic pressure of
tissues, cartilages and bones. The highest grades of “medical metals” and craftsmanship
ensure that Delacroix-Chevalier retractors last a lifetime.
Auto-static retractors maintain the retraction by themselves around the operative
field as a result of a tension maintaining system.
Hand retractors are manipulated manually to expose or retract during a specific procedure.
How to determine the quality of a retractor
Smoothness of the rack, proper clearance of sliding elements, stiffness of the arms
and blades to give overall ease of use.
Proper use of austenitic and martensitic high-grade stainless steel, aluminium, titanium,
careful welding techniques, and regularity of surface sandblasting prevent disruptive
light reflections. Delacroix-Chevalier and Landanger retractors have a mirror finish
on the inner part of blades to prevent the tissue from sticking.
For ease of use, the auto-static retractors’ sliding elements and rack must be regularly
lubricated. Regularly control lubricant dosing of washing machines. Please use a
dedicated small basket for small mobile parts of retractors to avoid losing pieces.
We also offer products to lubricate the retractor before its use.
